6 Steps to Health

Good morning. I have been a mental health couselor for over 25 years. I find that my happiest clients use self care in 6 areas each and every day. If you want to build a happier, more peaceful and healthy life consider these six areas of health.

  1. drink enough water each day, at least 6 cups

  2. give yourself permission to consider what you are feeling and needing, and then take action on this, even if others might be uncomfortable

  3. use mindful nutrition without overcarbing. Sometimes we call this a carb coma that creates fatigue and lack of motivation or falling asleep early on the couch

  4. avoid all substance, or at least minimize alcohol and other drugs. 

  5. Go to bed when you are tired. If you miss this sleep window you may struggle to fall and stay asleep

  6. Move your body. Consider moving in a way that feels good. walking, the gym, yoga, gardening, weights.


when you read these six items, they may seem simple but they are not easy. Each one including taking time and space to give attention to you and your needs. It is not selfish. It is important and healthy to prioritize your health...
